Males are black with white flanks; gray, black-tipped bill; drooping crest; and orange eyes. Females are brown with paler flanks.
Forages by diving underwater.
Tufted ducks feed on aquatic insects, mollusks, and plants.
Uncommon winter visitor and migrant through Jordan. Migrates south in winter and north in spring. Occurs in small numbers in wetlands, reservoirs, and flood pools in Azraq, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba regions.
