Star of Bethlehem
A total of eight Ornithogalum species have been recorded in Jordan. They are generally characterized by star-shaped flowers clustered loosely in some species, and in racemes or spikes in others. Each flower has six white tepals with a green underside and six stamens around an ovary. The leaves are generally basal and grass-like. Toxic if ingested.
Grassy fields, roadsides, and woods in the Northern Highlands, including Irbid, Ajloun, and Amman.
Spring. Each flower lasts only a couple of days.
