Males are sandy-yellow with light-gray wing bars; gray head and breast; orange throat; black underwing margins. Females are sandy-yellow; dark-spotted upper body and breast; paler orange throat.
Nomadic. Mostly seen in autumn mornings around waterholes.
Spotted sandgrouse feed on seeds.
Occurs in declining numbers in arid regions, including Ruwayshid, Azraq, and Wadi Araba. Well-camouflaged in deserts. Nests on the ground.
