Shrine of Prophet Aaron
مقام النبي هارون
002- Iron Age Kingdoms
This shrine is believed to be the resting place of the prophet Aaron, the elder brother of the prophet Moses. Aaron died in the Petra region and was buried by Moses on Mount Hor, later renamed Mount Aaron. The small structure that marks the site was originally a Byzantine church built around the 7th century CE, later converted to a domed mosque in 1459 CE.
The 2-3 hours hike starts at the heart of the ancient city of Petra and ends five km southwest at the summit of Mount Aaron, the highest peak in the city (1,350 meters).
