Yellow-brown upperparts with a dark back; lighter underparts; long bushy tail with a white tip; pointed muzzle with a black pattern connecting the eye with the upper lip; large ears that dissipate heat, which minimizes panting and conserves water; hairy pads that protect it from hot sand.
Lives in small groups or pairs; territorial; nocturnal.
Feeds on insects, small mammals, reptiles, fruit, and human refuse.
Endangered species. Occurs in semi-arid regions in the Eastern Desert and around Aqaba.
