Flattened body with variable colors; tail longer than its body; about 13 dark tail-bands; ears smaller than its eyes; irregular scales, some spiny. Males have dark cross-bands that interrupt a white dorsal stripe. Females have a faint dorsal stripe. Gravid females have orange head and sides.
Runs with its tail curved upwards. Climbs on bushes to avoid the hot sand. Males rest on high perches to assert dominance.
Pale agamas feedf mainly on ants and some other insects.
