Grayish-brown body with dark, yellow-rimmed, rectangular markings that often fuse into a zigzag pattern; fused tail-markings that form three dark tail stripes; flattened head wider than the neck; rounded snout; golden eyes with black, round pupils; two dark stripes below and behind each eye. Non-venomous.
Mainly diurnal. Active after sunset on hot days. Retreats quickly when disturbed. Hibernates in winter.
Feeds on rodents, lizards, birds, frogs, and snails.
Unique to northern Jordan. Reported around Jawa, east of Mafraq.
