Moss is one of the oldest and most primitive plants on earth. It is a small, green plant that lacks flowers, seeds, and roots. It grows in clusters in moist habitats and reproduces by spores. Moss has small but visible stems and leaves, and occasionally grows longer stems that carry spore capsules.
Common on the shady, northern side of rocks and tree trunks in damp wooded areas, including Ajloun and Jerash. Also common in shady areas around streams and water sources.
