Middle East Blind Mole-rat
Small, skin-covered, blind eyes (uses touch, hearing, and smell to navigate); reduced ears and tail; short limbs; powerful front teeth (incisors) located outside the lips.
Solitary; spends most of its time underground; occasionally forages above ground. Digs elaborate underground tunnels, leaving mounds of soil on the surface. Digs temporary, shallower runways in the mud, leaving pushed up soil on the surface. Stores food in special tunnel chambers.
Feeds on roots, bulbs, seeds, fruit, and insects.
