002- Iron Age Kingdoms
Lot’s cave is believed to be where prophet Lot and his two daughters took refuge after God’s destruction of the village of Sodom. A Byzantine monastery and a basilica mark the cave’s entrance at the southern end of the Dead Sea. A few kilometers to the north is a pillar of salt believed to be Lot’s wife, turned into salt for disobeying God’s order not to look back at Sodom.
Lot’s cave is at the southern end of the Dead Sea near Safi, at the GPS coordinates: 31.0468°, 35.5028°. The pillar of salt is 4 km south of the Mujib bridge, at the GPS coordinates: 31.4319°, 35.5632°.
