Also known as shining leaf chafers. There are around 4,100 leaf chafer species worldwide, some are metallic or brightly colored. Beetles from the Scarabaeidae family, which includes flower beetles, are characterized by antennae with clubbed tips that fan out like leaves, used for smelling. Leaf chafers have two claws of unequal length at the tip of each leg.
Females lay eggs in the soil next to tree roots. Adults emerge simultaneously in spring after the soil is softened by rain.
Adults feed on leaves and flowers. The C-shaped larvae feed on roots and decomposing vegetation.
