Also known as “swamp lynx”. Sandy, gray coat; black ear-tips; black tail-tip and several black tail rings; faint, brown markings on face and long legs. Resembles the caracal, but they are not closely related. Juveniles have vertically striped upperparts.
Mainly solitary. Hunts mostly in daytime by stalking and leaping on prey. Rests in dens abandoned by other animals.
Jungle cats feed on rodents, hares, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish.
Endangered species. Occurs in the Jordan River Valley.
