002- Human Impact
Hunting with automatic weapons has decimated Jordan’s wild animals over the past century. It has led to the local extinction of several species, including the Arabian oryx. Although hunting laws are addressing this problem, many animal species remain endangered due to illegal hunting, indiscriminate killing of carnivores to protect livestock, and the killing of animals for superstitious beliefs.
Hunting is banned east of the Hejaz Railway and regulated elsewhere. Hunting is controlled by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature.
