Also known as ratel. Thick coat; white upperparts; black underparts; broad head; short tail; long fore claws used to dig out food and to climb trees.
Mainly nocturnal; occasionally seen during the day. Solitary, except in mating season. Nomadic; lives in temporary burrows or crevices while moving through its home range.
Ferocious hunter and feeder. Locates food by smell. Feeds on everything including small mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, eggs, fruit, and its favorite food, honey. Does not hesitate to hunt venomous snakes, scorpions, and animals larger than itself.
Endangered species. Occurs in northern Jordan along the Yarmouk River.
