A total of nine hollyhock species have been recorded in Jordan. They are generally characterized by basal stems; hairy, round, lobed leaves; white, yellow, pink, or red flowers; and fused yellow stamens that form a tubular center. Drought-resistant.
Different species occur in habitats ranging from the Northern Highlands including Amman, to deserts such as the Basalt Desert. Common, ornamental plant in urban gardens.
