Round body; warty skin; short legs; horizontal pupils; round eardrums; color varies and changes in response to light and temperature. Males are smaller than females.
Mainly nocturnal. Lives in humid burrows and crevices. Found in water only in spring while mating. Hibernates in winter. Secretes toxins when threatened.
Green toads feed on insects.
Widespread near permanent and temporary freshwater sources, including the Jordan River Valley, Irbid, Amman, upper Wadi Mujib, Petra, Ma’an, Azraq, and Burqu’.
