Sandy or gray upperparts; paler underparts; streaked breast; distinctive black and white flight feathers; distinctive long legs; long, slightly down-curved bill; light eyebrows; dark eye-strip and moustache.
Solitary or in pairs. Runs and makes sudden stops on the ground. Dives down vertically in display flight.
Feeds on seeds, and on some insects in breeding season.
Common in all deserts, including the Eastern Desert and Wadi Araba. Prefers flat, sandy valleys with low shrubs. Nests on the ground.
