Coarse, reddish-brown coat; dark back; lighter underparts; white pattern on the throat; black-tipped tail.
Mainly nocturnal; strictly nocturnal in areas inhabited by humans. Mates for life. Hunts and defends its territory in collaboration with its mate. Communicates by howling.
Rodents, birds, insects, fruit, and carrion.
Endangered species. Occurs in open deserts and around urban areas, including Wadi Rum, Azraq, and the Dana Nature Reserve.
