Large, aggressive, evergreen shrub; large leaves with pointed tips; fragrant, white flowers with five purple-tipped petals; green, inflated fruit that explodes open when pressed, releasing seeds embedded in white fiber. Secretes a poisonous, milky sap when cut, which protects the plant against goats and camels.
Hot areas with well-drained soil in Wadi Araba and the Dead Sea region.
From late spring to autumn.
Used in skin medicines. Source of strong fiber and gunpowder ash.
