Garlic Family Intro
مقدمة الفصيلة النرجسية
A total of 29 species in the Amaryllidaceae family have been recorded in Jordan. Plants in this family include onions, garlics, leeks, and chives. They produce chemicals, such as cystein sulfide, which give them their onion or garlic odor when crushed. They generally have narrow basal leaves; straight stems; white, yellow, pink, or purple flowers that emerge from papery sheaths and form spherical or hemispherical flower heads; and small seedpods that split open in three sections.
