Blue plumage; brown back; black flight feathers; black bill. Juveniles have duller colors.
Perches on high trees and wires. Rolls in display flight, hence its name. Nests in tree holes and rock crevices.

Migrates south through Jordan in autumn and north in spring. A few breed in Jordan in summer. Occurs in the Azraq region and the valleys of northwestern Jordan, including Wadi al-Seer and Ma’in. Nests in tree holes and rock crevices.
