Mostly white; dark green head; chestnut breast-ring; black belly-stripe; black flight feathers; red bill and legs. Breeding males have a red bill-knob. Juveniles have gray upperparts and white underparts.
Spends most of its time in and around water.
Shelducks feed on insects, snails, and other invertebrates.
Migrates south through Jordan in autumn and north in spring. Some winter in Jordan in the Azraq and the Dead Sea regions. Occasionally breeds in Jordan after rainy seasons. Nests in abandoned burrows and among vegetation.
