Brown upperparts with dark and light spots; white underparts; heart-shaped face; black eyes; ears located at slightly different levels for enhanced directional hearing; long legs.
Nocturnal. Solitary or in pairs. Hunts in complete darkness. Nests in tree holes and building crevices.
