Much-branched, thorny shrub; narrow leaves arranged in groups of 2–6; purple or white, trumpet-shaped, 5-petaled flowers; pea-size, orange berries.

Edible berries. Used as windbreaks and soil stabilizers. Used traditionally as a laxative and diuretic.
