Dark-brown plumage; white belly; white throat; short legs; forked tail.
Clings to vertical surfaces and never lands on the ground. Catches flying insects in midair and swoops over water to drink.
Feeds on insects.
Breeds in Europe and Central Asia; winters in Africa; migrates south through Jordan in autumn and north in spring; occasionally breeds in Jordan in summer. Occurs in the highlands and valleys of western Jordan, including Wadi Hidan, Wadi Dana, and Amman. Rare in Azraq and Aqaba. Nests in cliff crevices.
