Black back, head, throat, and tail; white underparts with reddish breast; white neck-sides. Females are paler brown.
Jerks its tail and wings frequently. Makes calls that sound like stones hit together, which give it its name.
Stonechats feed on insects.
Breeds in Europe. Winters in Africa and the Near East, including Jordan. Occurs mainly in the open grassland and scrubland of northwestern Jordan and the Azraq region.
