CSS/XML Timeline is a simple yet powerful HTML5 tool for generating interactive timelines from CSS and dynamic XML data. Create XML events then pass them to this tool to generate a timeline. The XML source can be prepared manually, or generated dynamically using any scripting language (PHP, ASP, CFML, Perl, etc.)
The XML code must start with <timeline> and end with </timeline>.
XML tags and attributes are case sensitive (<timeline> is correct. <Timeline> is not).
Duplicate attributes in the same XML tag are not allowed (<date title="World War I" title="World War II" /> is invalid.)
Attribute values must be enclosed in single or double quotes (title="World War II".)
XML attributes must be spaced correctly (year="2016" month="9" is correct. year="2016"month="9" is not).
To display the following special characters within the XML title, notes, and category values, use the equivalent escape characters instead. This is necessary to prevent your text from conflicting with XML tags:
|" (double quotes)||"||notes="MLK: "I have a dream...""|
|& (ampersands)||&||category="Science & Technology"|
|< (less than)||<||title="1 < 2"|
|> (greater than)||>||title="2 > 1"|
|line break|| ||title="Birthday: John"|
To help syntax-check your XML code, use an online XML validator.
